The whole setup seemed such a thinly viewed crib of the Harry Potter series: Boy with living unpleasant relatives suddenly discovers he has Special Powers. The denouement of this adventure is genuinely gripping, and instead of carrying on with my chores, I sat down to listen, not willing to miss any of the action.
